Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a number of questions that we are frequently asked. Many questions can be answered here, however, if there is something you'd like to ask, just drop us a line!
-
Can we visit Tucked Inn before booking a stay?We would be delighted to have you visit our facility! Our Meet & Greets are scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00am – 12:30pm and 4:00pm – 5:00pm, and on Saturdays from 10:30am – 12:30pm. Please note that due to the popularity of the Inn during summer months, we do not host Meet & Greets between Victoria Day and Labour Day weekends. We also do not schedule Meet & Greets during holiday long weekends, Spring Break, or Christmas and New Year. Simply contact us with a preferred visit time, and we will be happy to make the necessary arrangements.

Do you have adjustable kennels so a family of 3 dogs can room together? While our suites are not adjustable, we do offer two spacious Premium Suites that can easily house up to three large dogs (depending on their size). In addition, we have a generous 600 sq ft Studio Suite that is like a private studio apartment for your furry friend(s). And one of our humans event stays with them at night!

How often or how long will my dog be outside? At our facility, we love to see our furry guests having a great time in the Courtyard. We're a social bunch, and if your pup is up for it, they'll get plenty of chances to play and interact with other dogs throughout the day. But we also know that some pups prefer a little more space or quiet time, so we ensure everyone gets their fair share of outside time, either alone or with a canine family member by their side. We don't have a strict schedule for how often dogs go outside, as it varies depending on the individual dog and a number of other factors. But on average, our guests spend around 5-8 hours outside per day, weather permitting.
-
How many dogs are in your daycare program? We don't have a typical daycare program where you have to commit to a specific number of days or certain day of the week. Instead, our daycare (Drop In/Playplace) operates on availability and is great for dogs who are getting ready for an overnight stay with us. We welcome most dogs, and since the number of guest dogs is constantly changing and fluid, we'll work with you to ensure we can accommodate your furry friend. Just give us a heads-up in advance, so we can schedule your Drop In visit and make sure there's room for your pup! Please note, we can't accommodate unexpected guests at this time. We do not accept intact male dog over one year old in ongoing daycare (one-off visits may be possible, but need to be approved ahead of time).
-
Are daycare guests kennelled or outside all day?Our daycare guests receive both outdoor playtime and indoor rest/nap time depending on their individual needs. We provide them with their own private luxury suite for downtime, and they enjoy multiple trips outside to the Courtyard for playtime and bathroom breaks. We ensure all of our guests receive the care and attention they deserve, and our goal is to make their time with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
-
Do you have a large run for doggie daycare? Our outdoor space features a comfortable and spacious "courtyard" which allows us to closely monitor our furry guests' social interactions and behavior while providing plenty of room for exercise and recreational activities.

Do I need to bring my dog's food?Yes! We recommend that you bring enough of your pet's regular food to last their entire stay plus an extra 1-2 meals. Sudden changes in diet can cause upset stomachs, and being in a new environment can be stressful for pets. If you don't provide enough food, we have quality raw food available from Raw Performance for sale that we can offer your dog with minimal risk to tummy upset. Raw food starts at $4.50/lb and is available in multiple blends and protein varieties. Please bring your pet's food in sealed Ziploc bags or plastic containers, and include feeding instructions on or in the bag. You do not need to separate each dry (kibble) meal into individual packages -- we will portion as needed. We provide all the necessary bowls for water and food, so you don't need to bring any. Our bowls are made of stainless steel and are sanitized after each guest is finished with it. We normally feed pets 9:30am-11:30am and 4:30pm-6:00pm, depending on the number of guests and dietary requirements. We don't typically feed after 6:00pm, as most pets are settled and relaxed after a full day of play, however, if food is required for medications, we can make exceptions. We support raw feeding and even sell raw food in our shop and from our website. If you choose to feed your pet a raw diet, please portion and package each meal with the date, which meal, and which pet it's for. If your raw food is not portioned before your arrival, there will be a minimum charge of $5+HST per day to portion it. Also, please don't bring bowls for raw food. If your pet has a feeding mat for raw food, you can bring it, and we'll sanitize it after each meal. Our raw food prices average $4.50-$16.00 per pound, depending on blend or protein.

Do you accept 'aggressive' dogs?We take the safety and well-being of all our guests and staff very seriously. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate dogs that display aggressive behavior, as this can pose a risk to both our staff and other guests. However, we understand that every dog is unique, and we are happy to meet with you and your furry friend to assess their behavior individually. Please note that we do not permit dogs that have been trained in personal protection, attack, or any other form of sentry dog training. Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD), working dogs, and certain breeds may also require an individual assessment before we can accommodate them. Please note that we are unable to accommodate dogs who are dog aggressive, reactive dogs, or unsocialized. Read more about this on our update post.

What should I bring when I check my dog in for overnight boarding?Once you book your pup's stay, you'll receive an email from us that includes everything you need to know to get ready. We'll provide a link to our website that outlines the items you should bring and the things you should leave at home. Here's a quick reference list of what to bring: Vaccination records (you can upload them to your online account, or send them to us ahead of time by email or bring them when you check in) Any medications or supplements with detailed instructions Your pet's regular food in a resealable bag or container with their name and feeding instructions written on the packaging Familiar treats, especially a bedtime treat A familiar blanket, sweater, or pillow Your pet's bed, if you prefer (please note we cannot control "stress chewing" on beds) Toys (please limit it to two toys and avoid bringing any favourites, as we can't guarantee they won't be destroyed) Leash and/or harness (please no prong collars, choke chains, or e-collars) Coat or sweater for chillier weather Emergency contact information (just in case we can't reach you while your pet is in our care).

Do you charge a fee for administering medication?Absolutely not! At our facility, we understand that medication is just as important as food, exercise, and love when it comes to taking care of your pet. To ensure your pet gets the care they need, all medication must be clearly labeled with your pet's name(s) and dosage. If your pet does not take medications willingly (ie: eaten with meals), we kindly ask that you send along an incentive (suggestions below). If no exciting food or treat is included, we will provide a Greenies Pill Pocket for dosing, at a cost of $1.00 per pill pocket. We do not force medications, however, we will use a vet approved Pet Piller if necessary (a syringe-type tool designed to help deliver the pill far back in your dog’s mouth, where it will be harder for them to spit out). We also offer Greenies Pill Pockets for sale in our shop. If your pet's medication protocol is complex or extensive, we may ask for a small daily fee for administration. For example, we've had guests stay with us who require up to 18 administrations per day of various pills, drops, creams, and more, and in these cases, we would add a surcharge. However, if your pet only requires one or two prescriptions and/or supplements added to their day, there is no fee. It's important to bring enough medication for your pet's entire stay. If we don't have enough medication to provide for your pet, we will require a release form from your veterinarian to dispense a refill, which will be picked up by our staff. Please note that there is a $75 charge for this service. However, we always strive to make sure your pet has everything they need to stay healthy and happy while in our care. Please note that we do not administer injected medication at this time. Suggestions for treats: * A meatball * A piece of cheese * A piece of hot dog * Canned dog food * Cream cheese * Xylitol-free peanut butter * A small amount of butter (helps pills to slide easier too!) * Deli meats (turkey, liverwurst, ham, salami, etc.) * A small scoop of vanilla ice cream * A small portion of plain yogurt

How far in advance do I need to make a reservation? We absolutely love when pet parents plan ahead! To ensure we have availability for your furry friend's stay, we recommend booking at least one month in advance for major holidays and summer weekends. However, we understand that life can be unpredictable, so we will do our best to accommodate last-minute requests whenever possible. We do have a $29 last minute booking fee (less than 24 hours notice) for overnight stays. That being said, please keep in mind that the months of March, July, August, and December, as well a holiday weekends, tend to be our busiest months and often require booking months in advance. Don't wait too long to secure your pet's spot! Also, please note that we require deposits for all stays. You can find more information on our Deposits and Cancellations page.
